Festival of Social Justice Poetry

Juan Valdez
(or Why is a white guy like you named “Carlos”?)

By Carlos Andrés Gómez

GÓMEZ performed as a featured poet at our 2012 festival, and blew the doors of the place, as usual. A free and open to the public reading of featured poets, some new voices, many of national and international reputation, happens each night of the festival.

Hear powerful poems on matters of identity and culture, gender and sexuality, and environmental justice at Split This Rock Poetry Festival 2016: Poems of Provocation & Witness. Washington, DC, April 14-17, 2016.

It’s like a live primer on essential thought for this new century. We don’t read papers. We engage each other, we invent better lives, we challenge all oppressors.  Check out the sessions at our website.

The featured poets for 2016 include: Jennifer Bartlett, Jan Beatty, Reginald Dwayne Betts, Regie Cabico, Dominique Christina, Nikky Finney, Ross Gay, Aracelis Girmay, Rigoberto González, Linda Hogan, Craig Santos Perez, and Ocean Vuong.

Poet Laureate Juan Filipe Herrera will open the festival on Wednesday night with the closing reading of his tenure in the office.

You really should not miss this weekend.

What say you, then, Traveller?
